As an Immigration Lawyer, Baldemar has over a decade of government experience stretching from his early career at the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) to his tenure in Governor Pat Quinn’s office on the legislative affairs team as Assistant Chief of Staff and Legislative Counsel. While in the Governor’s Office, Baldemar represented the Governor’s legislative priorities in the Illinois General Assembly — supervising legislative liaisons from several state agencies, and analyzing and drafting legislation. Baldemar assisted Central Management Services, the Department of Labor, the Illinois Department of Employment Security, the Workers’ Compensation Commission, the Illinois Labor Relations Board, and the Department of Human Rights. Some of Baldemar’s accomplishments in the Governor’s office include passing the omnibus procurement bill of 2012 and passing the election law omnibus bill, which required election administrators to implement on-line registration for all Illinois voters.
In addition to developing a wide knowledge of procurement, regulatory, and other policy areas, Baldemar developed experience in immigration law and employment law. Baldemar has had a wide range of success helping employers and families with their immigration related issues. Baldemar earned his Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Denver and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from the University of Illinois with High Honors.
